We've tried a number of shop coats on a number of machinists over the decades and keep coming back to Universal Overall.  The "Cotton Shop Coat" is more durable and less expensive than most laundry service offerings we've tried.  We only replace them when/if the guys accidentally cut them.

I brought my shop coat home when I retired. After many years of faithful service I’m due for a new one. I sure am glad Universal Is still making them!!

I wear these every day. The protection to your clothes is great! The key to these Shop Coats are the brass Buttons. And, they are covered underneath the cloth layer. This covers the buttons from scratching anything when you may be leaning on a scratchable surface. Even if I am working on my car and I lean on the fenders to get to the engine compartment. "No scratches." I even wore these when I worked at the "Pipe Mill."
