This is a true vintage garment designed to be worn by individuals performing some type of manual labor. Because of this, the measurement for the chest is especially larger for two main reasons: First, to allow for ease of movement while working. Second, to allow for layering of of clothing underneath the jacket. As one no longer needs the layering of clothing, it may be removed and the jacket will fit loser, but the generous chest measurement is so that the jacket will fit when wearing multiple layers to initially keep warm.
